Janice Kleeman, who now lives in Indianapolis but, who used to live in Muncie, still woks here, and apparently buys her lottery tickets here as well, is the latest $1M Powerball winner. National lottery
Kleeman, who bought the ticket at Arjan Petro-Hoosier Pete last week, was revealed on Monday as the winner of a million-dollar Powerball prize.
Kleeman has been a physical therapy assistant in Muncie for 14 years and she discovered her lucky win at work on Friday morning. According to a Hoosier Lottery press release, that day it all started when her co-workers began discussing that day a newspaper’s article about the as-yet unclaimed winning ticket in Muncie. After realizing that the store that had sold the ticket was the same one where she often buys hers, Kleeman decided to go and see and went online to check her numbers. It is not known, whether she used some personal lucky numbers or if she let the machine decide the numbers for her. But, after she realized what had happened, she still was able to keep from spilling the good news to her co-workers, and called her husband to tell him about it.
“I was with a client when she called to tell me,” said Scott Kleeman, who works in sales. “Her voice was oddly strained and her sentences were broken. She couldn’t spit it out, and I initially thought something was horribly wrong.”
The couple was actually very fast to act on it, as they presented their winning ticket at Hoosier Lottery headquarters on that same Friday. Lottery numbers
The winning numbers in the Jan. 23 Powerball drawing were: 4, 19, 28, 29, 47 and PB: 5. The Kleemans’ ticket was one of three nationwide that matched the first five numbers, but not the Powerball number, to win a $1 million prize in that drawing. Still thanks to a recent increase in the “match 5″, the $200,000 is now $1 million. This automatically made them new millionaires.
Even days after her win, Janice Kleeman said she continued to feel overwhelmed by her good fortune. “It’s hard to believe,” she stated in a press release. “It’s hard to put into words.”
But when asked about possible plans of what to do with the money, one word popped up pretty quickly for the Kleemans: “vacation.”
“We only took one day off all of last year,” said Scott Kleeman. “We didn’t think much of it at the time, but looking back now I’m not sure how we did it. I think we’ll try to take a vacation this year.
As for the rest of their winnings, the Kleemans said they would likely invest the rest of their prize but, still have not certain plans on what to do with it.
Let’s see what the future holds for these winners as many possibilities arise when people are faced with a different future ahead of them.
Congratulations to the Kleemans and we hope they have a great vacation!
