One of our more interesting stories on lotteries comes from over the Atlantic Ocean. In Ireland, the local Tesco branch must part with a $713,000 prize which was won at the Euro Lottery. It appears that a customer wanted a €4 but the store clerk made a mistake and issued a €9 ticket. The following day, the store was contacted by the National Lottery and was informed that it has sold the winning ticket for the Euro Millions draw.

“If we are lucky enough to hold the winning ticket we will be giving the money away,” Tesco officials stated. Lotteries

The prize was not won at the main Euro Millions lottery draw, but at a secondary game, called Plus and commonly known as Euro Millions Two. The game is very simple. The player must choose 5 numbers out of 50. The ticket in question won the € 500,000 ($713,000) prize for getting all 5 numbers right. That particular game doesn’t have any breath taking prizes, but it is still very well liked by players. The second prize receives €2,000 for getting 4 numbers right, while for getting 3 numbers right, the player will receive €20. The lucky numbers for that particular drawing were 1, 8, 36, 38 and 46. Lottery tickets sold at Tesco have a history of turning out winners. The largest amount won with a ticket purchased at Tesco belonged to Les Scadding from Wales, who managed to win £45.5 million.

The largest prize awarded at the Euro Lottery was won back in 2005, by Dolores McNamara. She managed to win an astounding €115 million jackpot.

However, the Euro Millions lottery game is set to change soon, as the jackpots will become larger and there will be more chances of success.  Drawings will take place twice a week, and the number of Lucky Stars will be expanded. Lottery officials believe this will lead to more rollovers and bigger jackpots. Also, the overall chance of claiming any prize will go up from 1 in 24 to 1 in 13. Lottery officials also predict that the weekly winnings will go up from €1.9 million to €4.6 million.
