It seems as if all Powerball winners decided to come forward this week, it will surely mean a happy holiday season for one man from Luzerne County this time. He is the big winner of the Pennsylvania Lottery`s Powerball jackpot earlier this month.
Steven Lloyd of Harding received a check Monday afternoon for 37.6 million. State lottery
“Good things take time, but great things happen in an instant!” Lloyd said.
It all happened when he went into The Turkey Hill in Exeter, Luzerne County and decided that he would like to have a cup of coffee and a granola bar. And while he was at it, he decided to try his luck at the lottery. Lotteries
“The change that came from that had a five dollar bill in it. I asked the girl what Powerball was at and I said, ‘Just put the change in Powerball,’” Lloyd recounted. This on the moment decision made Lloyd the winner of the Powerball ticket worth almost $60 million. He was so in awe that he simply couldn´t believe it. Such was the disbelief that he had to check the ticket about 15 times, then he had his mom to double check it and make sure he wasn´t dreaming or reading the numbers incorrectly.
“It was then I realized I was the sole winner of $59. 9 million,” Lloyd said.
He is the 14th person to win Powerball in Pennsylvania, and his winnings are the 12th largest the state has ever seen.
Lloyd has decided to take the lump sum payment of $37.6 million. He said his first purchase will most likely be a new car, but other than that, he`s not sure.
“I haven`t planned anything yet. I want to have a year of transition and see how it shakes out. I`ve contacted advisory people to help me do that,” the new millionaire said.
Good for Lloyd, now whatever changes he wants in his life a practically possible, specially when he has his mind set in having professional advice and expertise to lay out the options for him. After all people work for a lifetime just to be able to get maybe a fraction of what he has won, so being careful with his windfall is actually a good start for a real winner.
The Turkey Hill in Exeter where he Lloyd bought the ticket, is also a big winner, the retailer will get a $100,000 bonus for selling the ticket. Both will have an early Christmas, it seems.
Lloyd said that most likely he will play the lottery again, however he thinks that he has used up most of his luck. That is, if luck can be “used up”. It is not rare to see repeated winners surfacing all the time. After all if you beat the chances of winning a Powerball jackpot which is one in 195.2 million, what else could be come your way?
