JANITOR FROM CANADA CLAIMS $16.6 MILLION
July 6, 2011

It is the general opinion that money only goes to those who have more money and don’t actually deserve it. Well, the lotteries defy that rule, and the story of John Addo only serves to strengthen this idea. State lottery

John Addo is Ghanaian by birth and he moved to Canada more than two decades ago. He first settled in Montreal, but moved to Toronto 3 years ago and started working for an industrial cleaning company. Well, the man doesn’t need to be a janitor anymore, as he managed to win a part of an astounding $50 million jackpot. John Addo’s share totals $16.6 million.

“When I gave the retailer my ticket and she told me how much I won, I went into shock. I immediately went straight home and lay down for awhile to think about it,” John Addo said. “Then I called a friend to come over, so that I could tell someone.”

The prize won by John Addo was divided by three, as there were three lucky lottery tickets with the same number. Another $16.6 million share was claimed by Jonathan Hines from Sarnia, Ontario, while the third jackpot winner has yet to announce his or her identity. But we can tell you that the third lottery ticket was bought in Quebec. Powerball lottery

John Addo said that the money will help him visit his family back in Ghana, and he has no real plans for the rest. He comes as just one of many lottery players from the Ontario area who have managed to win big at the lotteries. 3 lottery players from this particular area have claimed more than $50 million each in the last few months.

Back in march, three workers at a Toronto bakery managed to win a $50 million jackpot. A few months earlier, in January, a group of 19 workers for Bell Canada claimed another jackpot, but 9 of them retracted their claims. The Ontario Lottery Group decided that only $31.7 million of the jackpot should be paid, and the future of the remainder of the sum should be decided by a court of law. This was not the first issue of the sort, as another $50 million prize was disputed by a group of factory workers from Toronto.
