In 1986, state lotteries were recording massive profits all across the United States. The Kansas Legislature felt that the state was missing out on a very important source of funds, so it decided to amend the state Constitution and allow the birth of a state lottery. The Kansas Lottery act passed in 1987 and lottery tickets sales started soon after. The tickets for the lottery’s first instant game, the Up and Away, were very popular, and they were sold in 21 cities. The lottery recorded tremendous success right from the first week, when it sold over $7 million worth of tickets. After seeing how much money it can make, the state lottery decided to introduce more and more games. Lottery checker

The people in charge were marketing geniuses, and, in a very brief period of time, they somehow managed to turn the lottery into one of the most successful in the United States. They even employed the services of an itinerant singing group, the Kansas Lottery Singers, to increase the lottery’s popularity. Lottery winning numbers

According to Kansas lottery laws, the state lottery must offer at least 45 percent of its total sales in prizes. The highest percentage used for prizes was recorded in the 2009 fiscal year, when a total of 56 percent of the lottery’s sales was paid out in prizes. 29 percent went to the State Gaming Revenues Fund, while the rest was used for administrative expenses. 4 percent went to sales costs, 6 percent to lottery retailers and 5 percent for other management expenses.

The lottery currently offers several in-state games and quite a few multi-state options. Players at the Kansas State Lottery can purchase lottery tickets for the Pick 3, Keno, Kansas Hold’Em, Super Kansas Cash, 2by2, Hot Lotto, Powerball and Mega Millions games. The lottery’s game diversity and strong marketing strategies turned into one of the most profitable state lotteries in the United States.
