Someone from Great Britain managed to win the largest European lottery jackpot ever. Camelot, the operator of the UK National Lottery confirmed that the lucky winner of $258.4 million is someone from Great Britain. The person in question is still deciding if he will announce himself to the world or keep his identity a secret. As the jackpot will most likely be deposited to a bank the moment it’s claimed, the owner of the lottery ticket is losing £9,000 for every day that passes without a claim. This is why Camelot is urging whoever won to come forward and claim the awesome prize. Lottery winning numbers
Camelot said that the winner has 180 days at his disposal to claim the prize, and if he fails to do so, all the money would be donated to charity. Even though Camelot said the sum lost by the winner every day is £9,000, some argued that it could be as high as £14,000, depending upon the bank where the winner will deposit his prize. Camelot did not say where the ticket was purchased or if it was bought online. However, as a fun fact, if the winner would get cash in £50 notes, the resulting bundle would be four times as high as the Big Ben tower in London. State lottery
However, we all know that it is not uncommon for a winner to claim his prize several days after the drawing, as many people wait a long time before checking their lottery tickets. Also, a spokesperson for Camelot said that sometimes people make bogus claims but, “We have rigorous security procedures in place. The champagne is on ice for the winner.”
The lucky numbers for that particular lottery drawing were 17, 19, 38, 42 and 45, with the Lucky Stars numbers 9 and 10.
A very popular newspaper in England wrote that the winner would claim the 430th position in England’s top 500 richest people. He would be ahead of Ringo Starr, the former Beatles legend, but just behind the Beckham couple. Besides the lucky jackpot winner, two other people in the United Kingdom managed to win £1.7 million prizes for guessing 5 numbers. Meanwhile, a man who won a jackpot last year sent a message to the new winner, saying that he should keep his identity a secret. Lotteries
“I’ve had so many begging letters. It was upsetting. One man even sent his bank account number for me to put money into,” the man said.
