James Jones who is a retired banker, is entitle to half of the jackpot, $57 million. He chose to receive the whole sum of the winnings instead of receiving bit by bit, a portion of the winnings every year for a determined time span. He will receive a total of $42.2 million. Lottery results
The two daughters of Mr. Jones are the beneficiary of their dad´s generosity. Allan Jones of Greenville and Kimberly Jones who now resides in Georgia and is a high school teacher will be receiving each $4.3 million. And James Jones himself will be taking home $20 million after taxes apply. National lottery
The lucky ticket was purchased twelve days ago at the Kangaroo Express on Greenville Boulevard. The Kangaroo Express has received a $50,000 incentive award for selling the winning ticket.
The Mega Millions jackpot on the night of September 30th was actually $114 million, a second winning ticket was sold in California. However nobody has claimed the other half of jackpot yet.
“For my family, it will mean the ability to finish the education of our grandchildren and their grandchildren” said James Jones. “For my daughters, it will certainly mean a less stressful financial life and the ability to follow their life ambitions. As for my wife and I, it will certainly not change much in our lives as we now live comfortably and have no needs or want for many more worldly things.”
Mr. Jones has expressed that he would like to invest his money and save it for future generations, he is also interested in supporting charities that are meaningful and worthy for him.
A total of five $2 Mega Millions tickets were bought by Jones on that Friday afternoon before the drawing . On Saturday morning he had the thrill of discovering that all the five while balls and the Mega ball matched perfectly. He describes that special moment as simply unbelievable.
”It was truly unbelievable. After I had checked enough to convince myself I really had won, it was exciting. And a little bit scary”, declared Jones.
This is not the first time that North Carolina has been lucky enough in taking home the jackpot, these prizes pertain to the two multi-state jackpot games, Mega Millions and Powerball. A total of five jackpots have been won since the N.C. Education lottery was set up five years ago.
