Powerball, one of the most attractive jackpots of the nation keeps on popping up on the news. It already created media frenzy and of course an all-time lottery buzz when it reached a whopping $254 million only a few weeks ago. But up till now, it is still creating and generating news and speculation. Powerball lottery
On the 2nd of November, 2011 the gigantic jackpot seemed to have found a home in Connecticut, but up till now no one has come forward to claim it. What are the chances? If you knew that you have the winning ticket, wouldn’t you just go and claim all that money that could actually change your whole life and the life of others as soon as possible? Well, that is, unless you lost the ticket.
Up until now there has been a lot of speculation, a week ago there was a rumor that the winning ticket was purchased at Belltown Superette in Stamford, in a store with a reputation of selling winning tickets. The owner of the store says that a man came in and said that he had bought the numbers but couldn’t find the ticket and that the winner-to-be-confirmed is a sanitation worker. Whether this is simply a strategy to boost lottery sales at this retailer spot or not, the truth is the jackpot is still waiting to be claimed.
The Connecticut Lottery encourages everyone to check their tickets carefully and to sign the back of their tickets to establish ownership. Since the tickets are actually the key to the prize they should be kept and safeguarded.
To make the search of this winner even more effective the lottery officials are resourcing to a billboard campaign to try to find the person who bought a $254 million Powerball ticket in Connecticut. The person who bought the ticket at an undisclosed location in Fairfield County has until April 30 to come forward and claim the prize. In addition to the billboard campaign officials are using display screens at 2,700 retailers across the state to urge people to check their tickets. Mega lottery
The jackpot is the biggest ever in Connecticut and the 12th largest in Powerball history.
In spite of all the rumors that have sprung from this story lottery representatives have expressed that up till now nobody has contacted lottery officials to make a claim.
What happens if this prize is unclaimed? By law, when a jackpot goes unclaimed, the money must be returned back to all lotteries, in proportion to their sales for the draw. Then the lotteries will distribute the money as indicated by law into other lottery games or back to the state’s general fund.
