SCANDAL BREAKS OUT OVER OHIO LOTTERY PRIVATIZATION
June 22, 2011

The privatization of the Ohio State Lottery has sparked tremendous critics from legislators. Last week, the American Policy and Ohio Roundtables spoke loudly against an agreement between the Rock Ohio Caesars and the state of Ohio. Representatives from the conservative groups said that Governor John Kasich should expect a score of lawsuits concerning the deal and lottery privatization.

Also, lottery workers represented by a union said that the video slots plan will not be as profitable as the plan devised with the previous governor and that the privatization of the lottery would cost a lot of people their jobs. Powerball lottery

“Of course we’re going to litigate, and so are a bunch of other people. You can rest assured what they’re opening up is a Pandora’s box of lawsuits that is going to go on and on and on — because you can’t go about trying to make fixes the wrong way. You can’t do what they’re trying to do,” David Zanotti, President of American Policy Roundtable, stated.

The deal was announced on June 15 it mainly concerns the way casinos will be taxed and it will allow slot VLTs at seven horse tracks. The company will have to pay the state $110 million during the next 10 years while the operators of the VLTs will pay 33.5 percent in taxes plus an additional $50 million each.

“The governor’s going around the state shaking hands, making statements, and claiming that conflicts that exist within Issue 3, now Article 15 of our Constitution, by simple agreements, by arrangements, by trading dollars here for exemptions there — completely outside the legislative process and outside constitutional authority,” Zanotti added.

Zanotti accused Governor Kasich of political corruption and he said that the casinos are covered by the Ohio Constitution, therefore no change can be taken seriously if it is not written in the same act. Lottery results

“We don’t comment on litigation,” Rob Nichols, a spokesperson for Governor John Kasich’s office, stated. “Regardless, the governor is very pleased with the deal reached Rock, with the additional $110 million coming to the state, and with the significant number of jobs and substantial economic development provided for under the agreement.”
